One of the most important aesthetic problems of today's people is hair loss.
This is a common problem in both men and women.
The most important reason for hair loss is genetic factors. Inadequate and unbalanced nutrition, tension and sadness, old age, traumatic injuries or various medical disorders can cause hair loss.
Insufficient thyroid gland hormones, anemia, some systemic diseases (diabetes, cancers, chemotherapy applications, some infectious diseases...), some procedures applied to the hair (frequent blow-drying, bad brushing…), some chemical substances applied to the hair (shampoos, dyes…), sun rays... are other factors that cause hair loss.
The solution to this problem, which has arisen for many different reasons, is now possible! And the most common and most effective solution applied in the treatment of hair loss is hair transplantation.
Hair transplantation is performed with minimal surgical intervention. For this reason, people who have lost their hair due to various diseases or who have various scars can safely undergo hair transplantation.
Gender does not matter in hair transplantation.
If there are enough hair follicles in the body, both men and women can have a successful hair transplant. Hair transplantation operations can be performed on anyone who is over the age of 22 and who is healthy.
Another important thing to know is that hair transplantation can be applied not only to the scalp, but also to other hairy areas of the body such as beard, eyebrows and mustache.
FUT technique was the most preferred method in hair transplantation in the first years. With the advancement of technology and the emergence of new methods, the rate of use has decreased. In the FUT technique, a skin graft is removed from the donor area (usually the nape) of the person, and after the skin layer is completely removed and the hair follicles are removed, it is transferred to the area to be treated. The graft is a structure that contains skin and hair roots. There are 1 to 4 hair follicles in one graft.
In this method, hair transplantation can be done faster as the hair follicles are cut and transplanted in bulk. However, this method is not preferred as much as it used to be, due to the long healing process and scarring.
The most preferred and developed method among hair transplantation methods in recent years is the FUE technique. Hair follicles are extracted one by one from the nape area with the help of a micro-motor device or manual punch, then, after waiting with a special solution in a cold environment, hair follicles are placed in the area to be transplanted.
Since the hair follicles are placed one by one with the FUE Technique, even if the procedure time is long, the recovery time is shorter and it is highly preferred because it does not leave any traces.
The Direct Hair Transplant (DHI) method is one of the newest hair transplant methods. The DHI method is used together with the FUE technique. Hair follicles collected one by one with the FUE method are transplanted with the DHI method. The difference between the two methods is that grooving and hair transplantation are done at the same time, thanks to its special pen. This method offers the opportunity to plant intensively and frequently. However, if there are not enough hair follicles in the donor area, intensive hair transplantation cannot be performed in this method.
Robotic hair transplantation is among the newest methods used. In this method, hair follicle removal and hair transplantation are controlled by a computer. The only difference from the FUE technique is that the process is applied by a computer.
It is very important to determine the most suitable hair transplantation technique for the hair. After the technique is determined, care should be taken to ensure that the transplanted hair follicle is the same as the direction of the person's hair follicle. Following the procedure, the patient's compliance with the doctor's recommendations helps to achieve more successful results. It should be noted that it is much easier to achieve a happy ending if both the team performing the procedure and the patient act with the same care and take precautions against complications.
Since the hairline, which is very important in hair transplantation, differs from person to person, a standard measurement should not be applied. Forehead head structure, age, graft amount, temple size, eye level, facial features, etc. should be taken into account.
In classical hair transplantation, anesthetic drugs are injected into the scalp with the help of a needle. However, it is also possible to numb the area locally for patients who do not prefer needles. Since the procedure is performed under local anesthesia, there is no feeling of pain and suffering during and after the operation.
For hair transplantation, the process takes 3-4 hours in the FUT method, while in the FUE technique, it varies between 6-12 hours depending on the transplantation area. However, if a generalization is made, the average hair transplantation time is approximately 8-10 hours.
• Alcohol and smoking should not be used before and after the operation, as the use of alcohol will prolong the wound healing period and increase the risk of infection.
• As coffee, caffeine and some herbal teas may increase the risk of bleeding, they should not be consumed 1 week before and 1 week after the surgical procedure as much as possible.
• Physicians who will do hair transplantation should be informed about some drugs used for chronic diseases.
• Since blood thinners may cause bleeding, they should be discontinued 1 week before the operation.
• The use of drugs and lotions that come into contact with the scalp and hair should be discontinued 1 month before the surgical procedure.
• Before the operation, the hair should be washed and hair styling and hardening products such as gel or spray should not be used.
• Before coming to the hair transplantation process, foods should be consumed in a way that is not too heavy.
• Wearing and removing clothes that will not rub against your head and that can be put on and taken off should be preferred.
• Heavy activities and sports that may cause sweating should be avoided for 2-3 days after the operation.
• Dressing is done 24 hours after hair transplantation. Treatment is done with an antiseptic solution and the bandage is removed.
• Generally, the first wash is done by the staff in the clinic on the 3rd day after the treatment.
• How to wash in the post-hair transplant process is described to you by the person who did the first wash. At the end of the second week, the patient can return to normal hair washing with his own shampoo.
• Since the hair transplant area will be exposed, it should be protected from external contact and trauma for 1 week. For this, sleeping in a semi-sitting position is a good solution in this process. It is also important that the area is not itchy and that hand contact is avoided. If necessary, anti-itch medications can be used.
• Removal of the bandage 2-3 days after the operation should be done under the supervision of the physician performing the surgical procedure.
• After removing the bandage, the hair should be washed with slow movements so that the hair follicles are not damaged.
• Care should be taken that there is no rubbing on the transplanted area.
• Due to the high edema and pain, you should drink plenty of water and take the painkillers recommended by the doctor regularly.
• If going out, a soft and non-pressing hat should be worn.
• Care should be taken to protect from the sun.
As in every medical intervention, there are various risks in hair transplantation. Results such as loss of sensation in the donor area (it may heal spontaneously within 2-3 months), infection development in the donor and transplanted area, formation of obvious scars, and inability to obtain a natural appearance may be encountered. Care should be taken against these situations.
Shock shedding can be seen in a small part of the patients. However, in this type of shedding, the shed hair comes back in a short time.
As short-term and temporary side effects, pain, redness, itching and tenderness can be seen in the transplanted and donor area during recovery. Necessary medical practices against such situations are carried out by the relevant physician.
