Nose surgery, also known as rhinoplasty, is a type of surgical procedure to change the appearance of the nose.
The purpose of nose surgery is to change the physical appearance of the nose and/or to solve respiratory problems and to facilitate breathing.
In some cases, a person might choose rhinoplasty both to solve respiratory problems and to the change the physical appearance of the nose.
After rhinoplasty, the patient can usually be discharged from the hospital the same day.
Rhinoplasty, like all surgeries, involves many risks.
Including nasal breathing difficulties, chronic numbness in the nose and around the nose, uneven appearance of the nostrils, pain, swelling and scarring.
Some medications should not be taken for two weeks before rhinoplasty. Some medications may increase bleeding, so you should only take them with your doctor’s advice and the medications prescribed by your doctor.
In addition, you should quit smoking before and after the surgery or stop smoking for a while. Smoking slows down the recovery process after the surgery and increases the risk of infection.
Rhinoplasty can be carried out under local or general anesthesia.
Temporary swelling or bruising may occur in the eyelids for up to two or three weeks after the surgery. The swelling of the nose itself may take longer to subside. Consuming low-salt foods and avoiding sodium can help reduce inflammation more quickly. Ice or ice packs should not be applied to the nose after the surgery, but a cold compress is helpful in getting rid of bruising and eyelid swelling.
